Hey friends!
A couple things, first, it's September 1st, so WELCOME TO SPOOKY SEASON!
It may be 92 degrees today in Metro Detroit (wtaf), but I still dug out my vanilla pumpkin candle and popped on YouTube ambient music/screensaver -- currently vibing out to the magical tones of, "Cozy Autumn Witch’s Apothecary" 🍁
To be transparent, it’s always felt really weird to talk about how to do marketing as a roundabout way of getting people to hire me.
So instead, I’d much rather just show you how personal branding (and having an actual plan) can open the door to incredible opportunities.
Here’s a look at how that's been playing out for me over the summer. I’m still figuring it out as I go, but except for launching my D&D membership, every single one of these wins came directly to me inbound.
(For context if you're new around here: alongside my marketing work, I also run Once Upon a Roll, where I use D&D and tabletop gaming for community building, corporate offsites, and executive team-building!)
Here's what that visibility brought in:
- Successfully completed a brand partnership with StartPlaying 🎉
- Launched a membership program for people to play D&D with me regularly (first games kick off this week!)
- Facilitated a tabletop gaming experience for the CDC
- Spoke on a panel at GenCon on using purposeful play within organizations
- Flew down to Duke University to speak at Serious Play about using D&D inside companies
- Currently in talks with a major tech company to bring D&D to their next leadership offsite 🤯
Overall, just putting myself out there led to 3 speaking engagements, 2 podcast appearances, 2 workshops, a government contract and another accepted offer to speak this month.
And on the marketing client side:
- I helped a marketing consultant rebrand herself, and she’s since gone viral multiple times—we’re talking millions of views viral 😱
- I worked with an IT consultant to turn his deep technical expertise into stories he could easily share with anyone. That positioning directly led him to close a $90,000 contract over beers. (I realize this sounds too good to be true, but I pinky promise you this is how he describes it.)
What's coming up this fall:
I’m accepting a small handful of 1:1 clients who want help building a personal brand that actually generates opportunities.
If you're open to stepping into the spotlight, reply to this email and let me know you're interested in getting my help. If it's a good fit, I'll set up some time for us to chat.
